General annotation
Gene namepstP
Rv numberRv0018c
TypeCDS
FunctionINVOLVED IN REGULATION (USING DEPHOSPHORYLATION OF A SPECIFIC PHOSPHORYLATED SUBSTRATE).
ProductPHOSPHOSERINE/THREONINE PHOSPHATASE PSTP
Evidenceexperimental
CommentsRv0018c, (MTCY10H4.18c), len: 514 aa. PstP, phosphoserine/threonine phosphatase , equivalent to MLCB1770_13|T10013 PUTATIVE PHOSPHOPROTEIN PHOSPHATASE from Mycobacterium leprae (509 aa), FASTA scores: opt: 2517, E(): 0. Also highly similar to others e.g. T36714 probable protein phosphatase from Streptomyces coelicolor (515 aa); CAA10712.1|AJ132604 pppL protein from Lactococcus lactis (258 aa); NP_248765.1|NC_002516 probable phosphoprotein phosphatase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa (242 aa); etc. Also similar to BSUB0009_46 YLOO PROTEIN from Bacillus subtilis (254 aa), FASTA score: (34.0% identity in 250 aa overlap). Experimental studies have shown that PstP specifically dephosporylates model phospho-Ser/Thr substrates and it is likely that PknB (Rv0014c) and PstP may act as a functional pair in vivo to control mycobacterial cell growth. Functional categoryregulatory proteins

ProteomicsIdentified in the membrane fraction of M. tuberculosis H37Rv using nanoLC-MS/MS; predicted integral membrane protein (See Xiong et al., 2005).
TranscriptomemRNA identified by microarray analysis and down-regulated after 4h, 24h and 96h of starvation (see Betts et al., 2002).
Mutationnon essential gene by Himar1-based transposon mutagenesis in H37Rv strain (see Sassetti et al., 2003). Required for survival in primary murine macrophages, by transposon site hybridization (TraSH) in H37Rv (See Rengarajan et al., 2005). mutants available at TARGET website
